Product Care

Allen Edmonds Shoe Care

When caring for your calfskin, use Allen Edmonds Leather Lotion to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen Edmonds Premium Shoe Polish with a cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent value for the money Very comfortable from the first wear. Can wear with both casual and more formal wear. This is my fourth pair of AE shoes and all have been excellent. July 13, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great, comfortable good lookign shoes This is my first pair of AE's and all I can think is why has it taken me so long to get some of these shoes. The shoes are true to size and feel great to wear. It is clear the construction is first rate precise and of the highest quality material. I love that when you buy AE's you can see the last that the shoe is made on making easier to pick out your next since you know how they will fit. These shoes are timelessly stylish making it a shoes I can wear for a long time with the confidence that they will look good. In summary these are probably the best shoes I have ever gotten. I actually have bought 4 more pair of AEs based on how much I like these. July 13, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by This shoe had a great look Very stylish and a good fit. Look great in the summer with casual dress. July 13, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Wonderful quality that exceeds competitors So I want to preface this review with a couple of big caveats, this is my first pair of Allen Edmond shoes and I bought these heavily discounted on clearance. There's a good chance this review is only relevant for a week or two before it goes poof forever, but AE has gained a new fan and customer for life! I'm an IT guy, so in the "office" I'm not expected to wear fancy shoes and if I did, people would probably think I am interviewing for another job after work or during lunch. However, in my mid-30's I figured it was time to improve my shoe game since we go out and do adult type things a lot like shows, fancy dinners, weddings, and galas every once in awhile and my Rockports and Johnston and Murphys just weren't cutting it. At first, I was looking for some dressier tassel shoes to wear with a new Ralph Lauren Black Label suit I picked up on sale, of course. My initial search led me to Cole Haan and I went through a carousel with the pinch tassel, which looks OK but the quality is just average. The price was just under $100 and I didn't expect to wear them that much so no biggy. But then I stumbled upon these AE Lowry Hills and they were on heavy clearance for just $20 or so more so I figured I would give them a shot. Wow. Blown away by the difference in quality. It was like these were made of REAL leather. Thick, fine grained, wonderful smelling. Not polished to the point they looked like cheap patent leather. Lined and finished on the inside. Soles were wonderfully crafted with the Goodyear Welt and groove for the stitches. The vamp was both better crafted but also roomier. The presentation was also much better, they had their own felt bags. In terms of fit, the AE D actually suits me fine and I generally tend to need E width shoes, however my normal size 9D resulted in unbearable pressure on the top of my heel indicating I needed a bigger size. I went with a 9.5D instead and the pressure on my backheel is gone, but there is still some snugness and pressure on my foot I am hoping relieves with some wear. I am currently wearing socks and wetting them based on some online tips to help wear them in. I tried 9.5E, luckily they had them in stock even on clearance, and while they fit better in the toebox, my heel started slipping a lot so I decided to stick with the 9.5D and hope they give some after break-in. I liked the fit and style so much, I also picked up a pair of the burnished brown. I will say there are some things that should be noted. There is no detail/etching on the sole inside of the grooved stitching. Also, on one of the pairs of Burnished Brown I received, the Kiltie Tassling was off-center and not press downward. I ordered another pair to exchange because it is clearly off-kilter and odd looking. Also, there are some "holes" punched in the heel area, I guess these are so the shoe doesn't "whistle" when you walk as air exhausts? I guess AE has a new customer for life, the difference in quality over your sub-$150 shoes is amazing, although I am not sure I am quite ready for their Shell Cordovans yet!!! March 19, 2016

Answer:
We recommend checking out the Nashua because the Lowry Hill was designed based on this style, and it features a rubber sole. However, if you prefer the Lowry Hill, we recommend contacting our customer assistance center directly at cacmail@allenedmonds.com or by calling 1-800-235-2348 (Mon-Fri 7:00AM-6PM CST) so they can determine if your specific custom request can be accomplished based on current availability of shoe materials and components.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The Nashua is made on the 114-Last which features a slightly shorter vamp with a more rounded toe. By selecting shoes manufactured on the last that most resembles the contours of one’s feet, customers will achieve a superior fit.

The best way to get a proper fit is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores. If this is not possible, remember that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoe in returnable condition.

The difference between each of our widths is 3/16” in total girth, but this measurement will vary depending on the size of your foot and last on which the shoe style is manufactured on. The Lowry Hill and the Nashua are both made on the same Handsewn 114 Last; as a result, these styles will feature the same fit.

Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The Lowry Hill, the Walden, and the Stowe are all manufactured on the same Handsewn 114-Last and so they will provide the same fit. Typically the same size can be ordered in styles made on the same last; however, the Lowry Hill is not offered in a C width. When moving from a “C” to a “D” width, you can expect approximately a 3/16” increase in the overall girth of the foot. Girth is the measurement all the way around the widest part of one’s foot, typically at the ball of the foot.

Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The Chelsea loafer was manufactured here in our Wisconsin Factory using the 360-degree Goodyear welted process where we apply a layer of shock-absorbent cork between the insole and the outsole; this cushioning-technique allows your sole to form an imprint in the cork, which acts as a comfortable cradle for your whole foot. This loafer is comparable in construction to the Randolph which is also a welted style.

The Lowry Hill is a member of our Handsewn styles made in the 114-Last which has a semi-round toe with a slightly shorter vamp. The Handsewn styles are essentially sewn by hand, they feature a sock liner in the foot bed, and the interior is fairly flat. This loafer was designed based on the Nashua loafer but with a dressier style in mind.
