Product Care

Allen Edmonds Shoe Care

When caring for your calfskin, use Allen Edmonds Leather Lotion to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen Edmonds Premium Shoe Polish with a cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry.

Our new Dark Chili and Oxblood burnished leathers can be cleaned using a damp cloth to remove dirt and any residue. Follow by using a soft cloth to apply our Allen Edmonds Saddle Soap which cleans all smooth leather shoes while restoring the leather's natural oils.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Good Entry Level Professional Shoe This is a good, basic entry level show for the professional who wants a conservative, classic look and a quality shoe. But there are better quality shoes available, particularly for those with more room in their budget. August 5, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Thanks for making the 1943 last!!! I have a dozen or so pairs of AE shoes and love them all, but the Yorktown and the Cornwallis are definitely my favorites. (Warwick is a close second.) I love the way the 1943 last fits my foot and can go all day in the shoes. I often step out at night in them, too, because the style is unmatched. Allen Edmonds really outdid themselves with the Yorktown. It's hard to find a more handsome and classy looking blucher! July 15, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by VERSATILE SHOE AND GREAT DESIGN The Yorktown is well balanced in design and in my opinion a versatile shoe. You can dress these shoes up with a suit or business casual with a oxford and trouser. In a casual setting they would pair well with dark wash denim jeans. The Yorktown is by far my favorite pair of shoes that I own. Thank you Allen Edmonds for your superior craftsmanship and attention to detail. July 14, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by The shoes were comfortable right out of the box. The shoes arrived promptly and the "fit and finish was superb." The color was as depicted in the online photos. My purchasing decision was influenced by the various photos that were on your web site. You my want to think about adding a "virtual" depiction of the shoe to add a little "sizzle" to your online advertising/marketing. I'm also impressed with the box that your shoes come in. The box, like the shoes, are the best in the industry. We have some Allen Edmonds shoe boxes almost as old as the shoes that we use for packaging Christmas presents year after year. The box denotes quality and adds some excitement to popping the lid off when the shoes arrive at my home. Keep up the good work! John July 13, 2016

Answer:
It is definitely a Derby. The distinction between the Derby and the Blucher is very minor, almost irrelevant. They both feature open lacing systems, and the material that creates the lacing wraps around the back of the shoe and meets back up with the vamp on the other side where it is sewn on. A Blucher will be the same except that the piece of leather that is sewn on is much smaller.

Answer:
This is both a Derby and a Blucher which is a style where the quarters flap open at the vamp, giving extra room at the throat and instep in fitting. The Yorktown is a dress shoe styled to be worn with business or business casual attire, including suits.

I wear 9.5E in the Wilbert, as measured in an AE store. Because the store is so far away, it is pretty much a full-day trip to get there and back. So here is the question -- since this last has a reduced length, should I go to a 10?

Answer:
The length from the heel to the ball of the foot is the same on all lasts, but the shape of the toe and the depth of the show can affect the fit. It is difficult to recommend a size through this channel and guarantee a proper fit because each last will fit differently based on the contours of your feet.

If visiting a store is not possible, keep in mind products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoes in returnable condition.

Apparently, the crease is not uncommon. See the 4-star review and the two comments posted to it (mine is the second).

I think so, because I am having the same problem. I am going back to my local AE store to see whether the fit may be off.

Answer:
Excessive creasing at the toe area is most often a sign of an improper fit. We would like to see pictures or get the shoes back for evaluation to be able to identify what you are experiencing. Please contact our customer service team directly at eservice@allenedmonds.com or 1-877-817-7615 (Mon-Fri 7:00AM-8PM CST). We look forward to assisting you.

Answer:
I've got the same issue in a pair that I bought. I keep the shoes in shoe trees and use conditioner and cream polish to try and prevent the creases from getting worse, but it seems to be a losing battle.

I really love these shoes too, so I hope there is something that can be done to keep the captoes clean

When I called and ordered, the salesman told me that it fits very similar to the 5 last such Park Ave, McAllister, and Strand. I can affirm that they do fit similarly but a little less snug since it's a blucher not an oxford.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The 1943 last was modeled after the 333 Last. The fit of both of these last will be similar. However, the main difference you may notice in the fit of the 1943 it that the toe length has been reduced slightly and the width across the toe is a bit wider.

Do these two shoes fit similarly? I bought a pair (I believe the clearance Lexington cap toe) and it ran long for me

Answer:
The Park Avenue and the Yorktown are constructed on different lasts, and so the fit will be different. The Park Avenue is made on the 65 Last which is the longest in length of all of our lasts; best for a long, narrow foot. The Yorktown, on the other hand, is constructed on our new 1943 Last which is a derivative of our established 333 Last. We held the heel of the 333, reduced the toe length and widened the fit across the ball of the foot. It has a sophisticated shelf look and a traditional aesthetic tying back to our iconic dress lasts.

It is vitally important to visit an Allen Edmonds retail store or retail partner for a professional fitting to increase your chances of being fit correctly for each last and style. However, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoes in returnable condition.

This (to me) is kind of startling. Haven't seen this before. most perfing and broguing is outside of the laces, not underneath.

Answer:
This is a keen observation and an excellent question! The Yorktown Cap-Toe Oxford is the only style we currently offer that has the perfing under the laces. However, in the 1960s Allen Edmonds offered two wingtip bluchers with the same brogueing detail; the Saratoga and the Weymouth. The Yorktown is part of our new Refined Dress Collection where tradition meets trend, and this detail was a decision our design team made to modernize a classic design.

I went looking on your "All About Lasts" page and there is nothing about the 1943 last the new Yorktown shoe is made from. Can you give some details about the fit? Also, what last was the Hillcrest made from? One of my all time favorite shoes from AE!!
