Rated 5 out of 5 by Executive On Board I probably got it from my Dad. Or perhaps in the US Army back in the day; however, I don't step into the Boardroom or go on stage without my spit shined cap-toed shoes. This stuff does a fantastic job. September 8, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Got shell cordovan? Then get this. I love shell cordovan shoes. Had a couple pair that lasted me forever from a different brand (hey, I was just out of school not making enough money to buy good stuff). Recently I got a custom pair of black shell cordovan shoes from Allen Edmonds. When I first got them home I treated them with leather lotion, as the sales person said to do, and they looked lovely. Over time, though, they stopped looking lovely, started looking thirsty. Leather lotion, as great as it is, didn't do much for it. So I got a container of this. First, people who are complaining about it being very liquid-ish are right, and probably shouldn't complain, because that consistency is what the ingredients make. Do yourself a favor - when you get yours, let it sit upright for a day or two, and it'll all settle back down. It's VERY thick - took two days when I experimented with it - but it will settle. Second, it brings back the wonderful shine, which is why we crazy people pony up for shell cordovan shoes. Learned a couple of things about it though. First, I applied indoors, waited about 15 minutes, then took the shoes outside to buff them up, so I wouldn't get buffed off polish all over the house. The first shoe was fine, but by the second shoe, I wasn't getting a shine when I buffed, just various patterns of streaks. It's 90 degrees with deathly humidity outside today - so whatever they make this from, heat and humidity will soften it when it's reasonably fresh. Another issue - got a dog hair on one shoe, and it would NOT buff off. Had to gently scrape until I got one end of the hair and pulled it off. So again - when it's reasonably fresh, it's softened by heat and humidity, and it's tacky to touch. Brought the shoes indoors where it's cool and dry, waited a half hour, and they buffed up to a sparkling black. So - yes, it's very viscous, gooey. That's what it needs to be. Do your work where it's cool and dry. I'm betting tomorrow the surface will have hardened. July 8, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent product for Shell Cordovan shoes I've used other polishes on my shell cordovan shoes with less than impressive results. However, after utilizing the AE cordovan cream and buffing with a nylon cloth, the shoes have a beautifully rich shine. I found the nylon cloth to work best in bringing out a high-gloss result. Great product - throw your other shell cordovan creams in the garbage and stick with AE! March 17, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by A very unique polish for unique shoes Allen Edmonds Cordovan Shoe Care Cream does a great job. It’s like no polish I’ve ever seen. The cream is a consistency of rich jelly-like syrup. Though its application and polishing are a bit messier than their regular polish, it’s more than well worth it as my Shells look jaw dropping great. Now since this is my first pair of Shells, I have admittedly never looked for Shell shoe polish before. But I cannot recall ever seeing any polish for Shells by any manufacturer when inside any non-Allen Edmonds shoe store. This is a very specific and unique polish, but then so are the shoes. How is the cordovan care cream different from the shoe cream? I recently purchased the normal shoe cream for use on my AE cordovan shoes. Am I fine using the shoe cream I have on my shoes then replacing with cordovan care cream later, or am I best advised to purchase the cordovan care cream immediately and discarding of the normal shoe cream?

In your previous answers you say you have the Cordovan Cream in Black, Brown and Burgundy. But, when I go to order the Burgundy Cream for my Dalton Cordovan Boots, there is no Burgundy to order. Are you out of this or do you no longer sell this color cream?

Answer:
Shells are a completely different animal (pun intended). After polishing, and despite seeing the clouds outside, I excitedly couldn’t help but take them out for a test drive.

And lo and behold it started to sprinkle and yes, my Shells were struck with just a few drips of rain. (And yes I did my research and knew better.)

The few water drops caused the shine to temporality dull or disappear where the drops landed. Repolishing after drying remedies the issue.

Yes it’s a downside to these unique and wonderful shoes.

Answer:
Anytime a fine leather shoe gets wet, including Cordovan leather, we recommend allowing the shoes to dry naturally at room temperature and away from heat before applying any product. Also, insert Cedar Shoe Trees to help absorb moisture as well as help the leather retain its shape. Once the shoes have dried completely, apply an even coat of the corresponding care product, in this case the Cordovan Care Cream to condition the leather and buff with a soft cloth to achieve the desired finish.

Answer:
Like you, at first I scoffed at buying a pair of Shell Cordovans. I said something like…“Since the quality of Allen Edmonds leather shoes are touted so much, how much better can their Shell’s be?” Well, the Shells are fantastic.

As to the inside of the shoes, they are like a well-appointed living room with extra stitching and softer leathers.

And after polishing, the shoes look jaw dropping great. The Shell’s shine has a richness and depth like no other shoe I’ve seen.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

Cordovan is a rare kind of leather which features a tighter grain than calfskin, resulting in a more durable and heavier shoe. Compared to calfskin, cordovan leather is a bit thicker and more supportive. Cordovan is also characterized by its smooth look and feel.

Our cordovan leather is sourced from Horween, a Chicago-based tannery established in 1905 and one of the last remaining – and arguably one of the finest – cordovan tanneries in the world.

I recently used this cream on a pair of cordovan boots, and I found it difficult to buff off the cream once it had dried. Was I supposed to let the cream dry or should I have polished it off when it was still wet?
Is it possible that too much product was used?

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

Allen Edmonds shoe care products should be rubbed and worked entirely into the leather, as there should be very little left to have to ‘buff off.’ Because of the dye content in our Allen Edmonds Cordovan Care Cream, it is possible that if too much cream was used, streaking could develop throughout the leather.

We recommend contacting our customer service center at cacmail@allenedmonds.com or 1-800-235-2348 (Mon-Fri 7:00AM-6PM CST). They can either send you a return label or also help better identify what you are experiencing.

Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

For Cordovan Leeds black, is using shoe cream preferred over shoe polish? Is the shoe cream for leather maintenance, and the polish is simply to apply a high gloss shine?

Would you be able to give general guidelines on the use of the cordovan care cream with or without use of the deluxe shoe polish?

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

Cordovan is actually a rare kind of leather which requires its own special cream for polishing. To care for your Cordovan leather shoes, we recommend our Allen Edmonds Cordovan Care Cream which is offered in Black, Brown, and Burgundy.

For calfskin leathers, we recommend using our Allen Edmonds Shoe Cream or Premium Shoe Polish which can be used interchangeably. Allen Edmonds Shoe Cream is very rich in color and formulated to renew color, cover scratches and moisturize your shoes. Allen Edmonds Premium Shoe Polish brings back color to your shoes while giving them back their shine.

Per my last question, please let me clarify. The cordovan cream that I have says "Dark Brown" on the container.

Your website says it comes in Brown. Is there a difference?

I am not going to order Brown if it is the same one as mine and says "Dark Brown." So what I am asking is... even though it says "Brown" on the website, is it really Dark Brown like the one I own? Or... is it actual Brown, which is lighter, which means I'll have to order this for the true color of my shell Strands.

Thank you
