Overview

Why It's Great

Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, Museum of Modern Art, all call Fifth Avenue home. This famous thoroughfare is not only a historical landmark but a quintessential component of modern day living in the United States. New York City has been the financial capital of the world for hundreds of years, and Fifth Avenue is at the center of it all. With office buildings overrun by investment firms, banks and investors, our Fifth Avenue cap-toe oxford makes you ready for the action.

How It's Made

This classic six-eyelet lace-up balmoral made of our quality calfskin leather and handcrafted on our most popular 65 Last, is the shoe that knows the value of a good investment. It also has a little New York flair with the perforated brogue styling along the cap seam.

How to Wear It

Best worn with a suit or slacks, and finished off with our coordinating Manistee Belt, the Fifth Avenue man understands the importance of quality footwear, and isn’t afraid to show that he means business. There are always going to be new and trendy modern shoe styles, but it’s tough to go wrong with a classic that never goes out of style.

Product Care

Allen Edmonds Shoe Care

When caring for your calfskin, use Allen Edmonds Leather Lotion to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen Edmonds Premium Shoe Polish with a cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry.

Our new Dark Chili and Oxblood burnished leathers can be cleaned using a damp cloth to remove dirt and any residue. Follow by using a soft cloth to apply our Allen Edmonds Saddle Soap which cleans all smooth leather shoes while restoring the leather's natural oils.

Reviews
Fifth Avenue Cap-toe Oxford is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 739.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Quality Issues Poor quality - the finishing rubbed off on toe after a day of use and that is unacceptable. Now not able to return because they’ve been worn. Will not purchase from Allen Edmonds again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shoe! First really "nice" shoe I've ever purchased and I've liked these shoes more and more as I've worn them. The price tag for real, nice, leather shoes scared me at first, but I'm glad I went ahead and spent the money. These shoes will LAST. And they look awesome and they're very comfortable for a dress shoe. Glad I bought them!

Ask & Answer

Are the insoles removable?

Asked by: John
No the cork doesn’t come out. It can be replaced but usually during a reconditioning the AE shop.

What color do you recommend to pair with a navy suit for law firm interviews?

The brown looks extremely dark but the walnut looks too light to be formal. Is the dark chili a good choice for in between? Or does it have a reddish tint?
Asked by: LAWFIRM
For a Law firm interview, I would probably go with the black. But, I recently purchased the Midnight Blue shade and It would also be fantastic.

is the upper leather soft as the AE Sanford I purchased many years ago?

Asked by: JC
It is a soft leather, yes. As soft as the what you purchased many years ago is hard to tell for various reasons. However the company does a great job at purchasing leathers that are very consistent year in and year out. The leather on these are soft but not glove leather soft. It is a durable but supple leather that will ultimately gain a amazing patina overtime. Hope this helps.

What color edge dressing is recommended for the dark chili color?

Brown, Chili, or Neutral?
Asked by: ddd
I used brown and it looks good, I don't know if they have chili but if they do I'm sure it will look fine as well.

Fifth Avenue leather finish

In online photos the Fifth Avenue in black seems to have a very polished finish while the Park Avenue in black seems to be more supple and show the leather grain. Is that a design difference between the two styles or is my perception of the online photos incorrectly drawing this distinction?
Asked by: resoler
I submit that both have thier own leather character; the 5th does have a bit more shine straight out of the box; than the Park does. However, the suppleness and character of the [light] leather grain in the "Park" give it an extremely distinguished appearance. I posit that you are correct in your observation.

Recoloring dark chili color

I spilled some hot water onto the dress shoe and it looks like there's some discoloration and markings onto the shoe. Much worse looking than that of scuffs and scratches. What can I do to get rid of the discoloration and scuffs on the shoe?
Asked by: Anonymous
If you've tried the standard AE polish and that doesn't work, and you can't remove the discoloration and feel like they are "ruined", this may sound weird but as a last resort, maybe rub hot water on the rest of the shoe to even out that discoloration and they will be all one color again :). Alternatively, bring them in to a cobbler for expert advice.
