Fifth Avenue Cap-Toe Oxford is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 879.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Big sales 8 pairs in my closet buy I am growing reluctant to keep doing business. The frequency of bad reviews always seem to have an uptick when these large sales are in progress. Has me wondering if these are marketing ploys where Allen Edmonds dumps product that isn't quite bad enough to be labeled factory 2nd's.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Looks great, but did not last a year (This is my second pair of Allen Edmonds) Overall the shoe looks fantastic, as you would expect. I got mine in black, and everything from the leather to the stitching looks sharp and neat. My issue, however, is with the sole. I have had these shoes for just under a year now, and wear them on average every other day at an office job (and for what it's worth, I don't wear them in inclement weather, and I use the shoe trees when they're off). I would expect the sole to still be in great, albeit worn, condition. That, unfortunately, is far from the case. The right shoe has a hole in the sole that's about the size of a quarter, and the hole goes through the sole and into the actual cork. Furthermore, the sole is clearly coming off of the shoe, to the extent that I feel I can almost "peel" it off . I have read forum posts about Allen Edmonds shoes lasting 3, 4, 5 years before needing recrafting. And while I'm happy to have my shoe recrafted, I'm not interested in having it only last one year. So overall, I would not recommend (or at least not with the leather sole - the dainite sole on my other pair are holding up very well).

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Buy in Store If You Can I just received my Walnut Fifth Avenues today and would say that I am slightly disappointed in what I received. To echo some of the other reviews, I feel like I received what should have been a factory second pair of Fifth Avenues. Overall, they are still nice shoes but I was expecting, for what you pay, that the fit and finish for a first quality shoe to be better. I noticed a number of things that would make anyone question the quality control for their first quality shoes. The first and biggest thing I noticed is that the welt stitching around the heel of the left shoe, ran off track for 1.5 inches and the seam is on the edge of the welt/outsole, which will end up receiving more wear and tear faster, not to mention doesn't look good if noticed. The second is on the right shoe. The toe cap seam that ties the toe cap to the vamp is out of line with the stitching holes underneath it, leaving the edge of the toe cap not quite covering the seam underneath it. It would be hard to notice at a glance, but easily identifiable by someone admiring their new par of shoes. Some of the smaller things, but still important are looser grain in the lace guard/quarters, some of the smaller brogue holes aren't quite cut out all the way, machine marks around tongue of both shoes from sewing, a skiving mark with a loose flap of leather around the welt, and 1 or 2 small un-burnished areas of the outsole. All in all, I think if you can go to a store in person and do your own inspection, you will undoubtedly find a good shoe. I wish I were able to return these for a better pair, but due to my circumstances, I do not have the time for the turn around. I am known by my friends to be kinder in my reviews than I "should" be, but I would still recommend AE to a friend that wants a quality pair of shoes.

I live in and travel to areas that can be awfully wet and thusly slick with this type sole. Are there options to help with that?

I’ve seen tape that some people sell but I don’t want to void a warranty yet out something on the sole to give me more traction. Please offer recommendations. Thank you. Justin
    Asked by: Anonymous
Hello, Thank you for your inquiry! We recommend customizing on your sole. You might want to try a Dainite sole because it will help with traction and weather conditions. You can purchase a different sole for an additional $ 40.00. -AE Consumer Care Dept.

What length replacement laces should I use for 5th Ave?

    Asked by: YS
I recently had to replace the laces in a pair of Park Avenues, and 30 inch laces worked perfectly. Since the Fifth Avenue is so similar (I have a pair of those also) to the Park Avenue, 30 inch laces should work.

What color do you recommend to pair with a navy suit for law firm interviews?

The brown looks extremely dark but the walnut looks too light to be formal. Is the dark chili a good choice for in between? Or does it have a reddish tint?
    Asked by: LAWFIRM
For a Law firm interview, I would probably go with the black. But, I recently purchased the Midnight Blue shade and It would also be fantastic.
