McTavish Oxford Wingtip Dress Shoe is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 65.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sole makes this shoe way to big, imho After getting my first pair stolen from my front door i ended up paying double for my second pair which I managed to get hand delivered. Compare to all their other shoes this one is quite big and looks more like a Ronald McDonald Shoe, imho. The sole sticks out almost an inch which makes you look like walk like a penguin! None of their other shoes are like this and believe me I have like 10 pairs!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very nice looking shoe, but poorly made I normally wear an 11E in other Allen Edmonds shoes. I ordered the 11Ds since it was the closes size available. The width was fine and the show was only slightly too long (but definitely still wearable). The shoes looked amazing, but I had to return them because of quality issues. When looking at the rear of the shoes side-by-side, one shoe was more than a quarter of an inch taller than the other. The seam on the heel was also twice as long on one shoe as the other. From that point of view, you would never believe that they were the same model and size. Some of my other AE shoes are also a bit mismatched, but not to this degree. One of the shoes also had two big gouges in the leather right on top where it's obvious. The other shoes had some scrapes, but I could have ignored those. I can't believe these shoes passed inspection. I don't think they would even quality as factory seconds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another great pair of shoes The McTavish is another pair of quality shoes. A nice pair of casual shoes. These were only slightly large, but they still feel great with heavier socks. I like them very much.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Clown Shoes. I own several pairs of Allen Edmonds these are different. I've always worn a 12D - when received, the 12D fits more like a 12.5E. While they are much bigger and less attractive than all of my other pairs, they are comfortable. The quality of the craftsmanship appears to have diminished with this most recent order and I hope is not indicative of quality control and the general quality of product being produced now.

My husband has the black Mctavish with the rubber sole. It didn’t seem to hold up as well as the leather sole and now he needs new heels. advice?

Should he upgrade soles and if so which ones?
    Asked by: Kriss
Thank you for being an Allen Edmonds customer! You may want to consider recrafting your shoes. The Standard package is our most popular option. It includes new outsoles, heels, cork inlay, welting, and laces. We'll also refinish and hand polish the uppers. This package is $125. If you would like to have your shoes Recrafted, you can drop them off at any Allen Edmonds retail store or ship them directly to our Recrafting team in Port Washington, WI.

I have a pair of black McTavavish with the lugged sol, the heel is wearing out.

I was under the impression the McTavish was recraftable. I do not see this sole on the racrafting page. Is the heel portion replacable? All else is in grand shape.

What Belt is recommended for the McTavish in the natural finish?

    Asked by: Drdoyal
I'm currently wearing the Sterling Ave belt in tan. The belt is a little darker than the natural finish but I can already tell the natural finish is getting a little darker due to wear.

    Is the Mctavish being discontinued?

I'm only finding them in the factory seconds section.
    Asked by: Greg
They have been redesigned, as shown in a recent catalog shipped September 2018. Black is now solid black, with no contrasting stitching and natural is replaced by “tan,” which looks like walnut with a bit more red. Clear lug sole retained.

Is this new lug sole only temporary for the winter? I will buy when they go back to the old version but how long might have to wait?

Somewhat new to AE so I don't understand their timing for changing styles back and forth. My first par was McTavish and I want another pair in black but don't like new style. Will old style be back in the spring? The boot style sole looks terrible on this shoe. How much would I have to pay to get a normal sole? Also don't like the tan weld(?). The were perfect the way they were. Judging by the comments, many others think so too.
